How Trump Expired Presidency Opened the Appetite for Establishing Settlements?

Israel declared yesterday, in a new challenge for the International community, and before hours of President Joe Biden’s inauguration, to build 2600 new settlement units in seven settlements in the West Bank including Jerusalem.

Until the final days of the United States President Donald Trump in the white house, and before hours of Joe Biden take over the office, the occupation government was taking opportunity by ratifying to build more settlement units in the West Bank including East Jerusalem.

Israel declared yesterday, in a new challenge for the International community, and before hours of President Joe Biden’s inauguration, to build 2600 new settlement units in seven settlements in the West Bank including Jerusalem.

The past four years have witnessed, acceleration in settlement building and the establishment of new outposts, with the encouragement of the previous US administration lead by Donald Trump. Which promoted and legalized settlements, slamming the Security Council resolutions to the wall, these resolutions assured the illegality of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories since 1967 including East Jerusalem, and it was regarded as a flagrant violation to International law, and an obstacle for a two states solution and implementing peace.

On 12 November 2019, US former administration, declared through its foreign minister Mike Pompeo, that “The United States does not regard the Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank violates international law”, in an attempt to evade former resolutions in this context.

This American stance was a form of green light and additional encouragement for the Israeli occupation government, to expand settlements, build new outposts, and conduct its project to annex a large area of the Jordan Valley region, and implement Israeli sovereignty over it, in what is called “Deal of the Century”
